For months, the Grand Island City Council has been talking about the future of the Lincoln Park Pool.
Tuesday night it was decision time.
Council was asked to approve building a new facility.
The cost $1.55 million. The other option was to renovate the current pool
They decided to move forward with a completely new pool site. After engineers determined that renovating the current pool would only cost about $50,000 less, the council members started to think more about the idea of a brand new pool.
One they say is a promising community investment.
Construction on the new pool will begin later this year, allowing Grand Island residents to continue using the current pool this summer.
The new facility will be ready by the summer of 2013.
Community members can anticipate a zero depth entrance, a couple play features and a shade structure.
Steve Paustian, with Grand Island Park and Recreation said the opportunity to build a new site will liven up the city's summer fun.
"The Lincoln Pool Project will be financed by an addition to the Community Redevelopment Authority tax levy, with the debt to be retired over eight years. For home owners, that means a slight hike in property taxes per year," said Steve Paustian, Parks and Recreation Director.
Still hanging in the hands of city council is the waste water treatment plant.
The debate on whether to privatize management of the city's waste water system. The discussion was delayed Tuesday night and rescheduled for the Feb 14th council meeting.
