GI mayor vetoes council negotiating change
At last night's Grand Island city council meeting, council passed both a pay raise for themselves and for the mayor's office. What didn't get passed was a move to give the council negotiating power.
That was vetoed by Mayor Vavricek. The council passed a measure 6 to 4 to transfer the power from the current negotiating team, which includes City Attorney Bob Sivick, to the council itself. The mayor used his veto power and the measure did not survive a veto override attempt coming up one vote short. Mayor Vavricek attempted to use his veto power earlier this month when it came to the sexual orientation of city workers. That veto was overturned by a 8 to 2 vote. |
