Governor criticizes UNMC regarding Medicaid
Another dispute between Governor Dave Heineman and the University of Nebraska Medical Center has to do with the Medicaid Provision of President's Obama's Affordable Care Act
In a letter to the Medical Center, the governor accuses the medical school of taking sides. The letter was obtained by Nebraska Watchdog through the Freedom of Information Act. The study claims that expanding Medicaid would bring significant returns to the state - roughly $3 billion worth through 2020. The study says it would cut the number of uninsured Nebraskans in half and generate 70 million in economic activity. Heineman claims Medicaid expansion would lead to cuts to Nebraska school funding and would raise taxes. Watchdog says NU President J.B. Milliken responded saying the university had not taken a side on the issue and said UNMC was "trying to make a point because it is worried about losing certain funding." Speaking of the Affordable Care Act, just today Gov. Heineman announced the state will be submitting its Nebraska Option for the Essential Health Benefit package |
