Governor downplays effect of budget cuts
A bunch of malarkey. That's what Governor Dave Heineman said Sunday to the New York Times when it comes to the idea that the nation would be devastated by a 2 to 3 percent budget cut. Monday the governors' convention met again.
President Obama told the meeting of the nation's governors the time has come for elected officials in Washington to put politics aside and "do some governing." With over $80 billion dollars in automatic federal spending cuts scheduled to start on Friday the president argued the uncertainty is already having an affect. Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal came out strong against Obama. The president needs to stop campaigning, stop trying to scare the American people, stop trying to scare states. Every American knows out there, you just ask the American people, they believe there's at least 3% of the federal government spending that is wasteful spending and they would tell you there's room to cut the waste without jeopardizing critical services," said Jindal. Heineman was set to return to Nebraska Monday. |
