Governor expresses disapproval with healthcare bill

Tools

Governor Dave Heineman has consistently expressed his argument against the bill and says LB 577 means less funding for other state programs and a hit on the middle class.

"Nebraska can't afford it and it's unsustainable. If you expand Medicaid, it's going to cost the state hundreds of millions of dollars and that means you're going to take money away from state aid education, special education, early childhood programs, the University of Nebraska and our state colleges. Education should be our priority," said Heineman.

If approved, the expansion would go into effect along with the Affordable Healthcare Act next year.
