Governor lends support to "Nebraska Option" of healthcare plan
The governor is speaking out Wednesday in support of the "Nebraska Option" for the essential health benefits plan required by the Affordable Care Act or so-called Obamacare.
News 5 caught up with him in Grand Island.
This "Nebraska Option" is not the same as the health exchange which is another key part of Obamacare. These are health plans for individuals, families and small businesses.
He says the plan he chose is the state's minimum standard of coverage that health insurance agencies must offer.
It's aimed at mid to low income individuals who may not otherwise purchase health insurance.
He wants people to understand this is the absolute minimum coverage plan.
"That's the challenge with all this. There's too many different plans out there. We tried to choose the basic plan, then everybody can move above that," said Heineman.
The governor still has not made a decision on the state health exchange. The decision is due November 16th.
