Governor listens to farmers' concerns in Hastings

Governor Dave Heineman's tax reform is getting mixed reviews across the state. He spoke with the rotary club in Hastings Friday about his plan to eliminate the income tax that would also eliminate many sales tax exemptions.

The Nebraska Farm Bureau and some farmers across the state are worried this move will have a negative impact on agriculture.

"I've had some conversations with them and I've asked them, well, tell us what you're for. I know what you're against. And, again we're having those conversations and if they can come up with better ideas, we're listening. We want to make the current tax code better," said Heineman.

Governor Heineman has proposed two different bills on his tax reform plan. Both bills eliminate key tax exemptions for farmers.
