Grand Island airport plans to extend runway
If you flew through the Grand Island airport this summer you may have had a longer flight than normal. The hot and humid weather forced many flights to make a pit stop for extra fuel.
But, the Central Nebraska Regional Airport in Grand Island has a fix for that. Airport officials say they plan on building a longer runway. This will allow planes to carry a full load of fuel so they don't have to make stops. The airport is currently in the planning stages of the process. The environmental assessment was released last week. "The environmental part of the process means we did archaeological studies, we've done other types of studies to make sure there's no, any Indian burial sites or that type of thing and we knew there wouldn't because it's previously disturbed earth," said CNRA Regional Director Mike Olson. There is a public hearing on the report going on until 7:00 pm in the airport's administrative offices. |
