Popularity at the Central Nebraska regional airport continues to grow.
The airport reached a record number for 2012.

According to a recent enplanement report, the total number of passengers flying through Grand Island grew over the past year.

Over 56,000 passengers went through Grand Island.

That's a 19 percent increase from 2011 when 47,090 passengers flew out of the airport.

The highest number before was over 51 thousand in 1980.

Executive director Mike Olsen says these numbers show the airport is moving in the right direction.

"Now we have options and the business community has better options today than they did 3 or 4 years ago. Do we have the best of all worlds now? No. We understand that this is a work in progress," said Olsen.

Grand Island also broke the monthly boarding record that was set earlier in 2012.

Over 6,000 passengers flew out of Grand Island in the month of December.
