Grand Island hosts inauguration party

The celebrations and parties didn't just take place in Washington D.C.
A group of Democrats in Hall County even got together for a little celebration at Nathan Detroits in downtown Grand Island.

It's something they did for President Obama's first inauguration four years ago.

Again, there were hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar. Also pictures with cardboard cutouts of the President himself.

The evening didn't just give these Democrats a chance to celebrate the President, it also allowed them to look into their own group's future.

"We have very low voter registration and very low voter turnout, so I think part of our goal for the next two years is to get people register, get the young people registered, get people involved and get our message out," said Hall County Democrats Chair Judy Vohland.

While the event, open to the public, was about having fun, it was also a chance to help the community. The entrance fee was a can of food for the area food bank.
