Franklin County recall petition fails; Grand Island's surges ahead

Tools

There are updates on a couple recall petitions in central Nebraska. First, Franklin County officials say the deadline has come and gone for petitioners to file the needed signatures to recall Sheriff Jerry Archer.

That deadline passed on the 29th, but because the date fell on a Saturday, the office would have accepted filings through October 1st.
However, no signatures were turned in.

The deadline to hand in signatures to recall County Attorney Patrick Duncan is this Friday, October 5th.

A petition and report filed at the Franklin County Court notes discrepancies in the handling of court cases and other legal matters as the conflict behind the recall.

And in Grand Island, recall circulator Jeb Wolsleben says he now has about 2,000 signatures collected for the recall petition against Mayor Jay Vavricek.

More than 3200 signatures are needed by October 14th to force a recall election.

Wolsleben also called a press conference Wednesday morning in Grand Island to discuss what he calls "a host of issues."
