Grand Island says farewell to Captain Kortum
As the Hastings Police Department gets ready to welcome a new Chief, Grand Island is saying farewell to a well-respected captain.
Pete Kortum of the Grand Island Police department still has a few days left before he starts as chief in Hastings. He's been with Grand Island PD for nearly 40 years. Thursday, the department held a retirement party for Kortum. It's a bittersweet transition. "Been there a couple times in the last few weeks, and people have stopped us and said, you're our new chief aren't you? And I say, yes, I'm going to be. Well, welcome to Hastings. It's just been kind of overwhelming and we're excited about it," Kortum said. "We always miss an outstanding employee like Pete, but it's a great opportunity for him. Great opportunity for Hastings," said Grand Island Police Chief Steve Lamken. Kortum's first day as chief of Police for the city of Hastings is Monday, December 3rd. |
