A railroad crossing in Grand Island is expected to remain closed until at least Monday afternoon, possibly into Tuesday after a train/car collision Sunday.

The accident happened just before 2:00 Sunday afternoon at the intersection of Third Street and Broadwell Avenue.

Police say a vehicle stalled on the tracks and the driver was unable to move the car.

A train hit the car pushing it into the crossing arm.

The driver of the vehicle was uninjured but the car is a total loss.

Police say damage to the train is estimated at $30,000, and to the crossing arm and brace; $50,000.

Crews are expected to repair that crossing arm later Monday. But until the repair is complete that intersection will remain closed.
