The city of Grand Island's getting $30,000 to help kick start a plan to revitalize the downtown. The grant is from Nebraska Department of Economic Development.

Wednesday night citizens got the chance to talk about the future of the downtown area at a special community information meeting hosted by the city and the downtown business improvement district.

Planners, architects, and city development officials were there to listen to input from the dozens of people who attended.

"Their image of the town they visit is based on the downtown. And the city and the private public partnerships can't make anything happen without getting community input and hearing what people want to see and happening downtown and they get people interested in coming downtown," said Community Development Administrator Marco Floreani.

The revitalization plan should be finished and ready to be presented to the community by mid-March.
