Grant aims to help homeless veterans
New funding will help provide housing for homeless disabled veterans.
The goal is that they will retain the residence as their own.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is awarding the Central Nebraska Community Services' family outreach department a $150,000 grant.
Focusing on disabled veterans and their families, the funds not only help to with housing, but case management as well.
With the cold weather season approaching, the assistance is even more important.
"I think it's wonderful especially with the holidays coming up to make sure that veterans have a place to stay to keep them in their home. If they are on the verge of losing it or something like that there's programs out there to help them stay in their homes," said Chris Long, Adams County Veteran Services Office.
The funds will provide services to 22 counties in Central Nebraska.
It will coincide with the CNCS Supportive Services for Veterans Grant from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
