Hastings College moves forward with new president
Back in September Hastings College Alumni, and faculty celebrated the inauguration of the 15th president of Hastings College Dennis Trotter. His legacy will be remembered as short lived. Monday, the College made it official that Dennis Trotter has resigned.
"We made the decision to come here and stay long term and that was also the board's intent." That was Hastings College President Dennis trotter just two weeks ago in an interview with News 5. But, on February 1st, Trotter made a shocking decision. "Dennis, who we truly have great respect for, recently advised us that he had decided to step down." Trotter leaves Hastings after just two years. "There were some difference in philosophy that took place mostly around on how to implement the vision and thoughts Dennis had going forward." But, despite those differences Board of Trustee Chairman Hal Ditmer says the board is still not completely sure why Trotter decided to resign. As news broke on campus, students used social networking to lobby for former President Dr. Phil Dudley to fill the void. But, the Board didn't want to go back in time. "Dr. Dudley did great work here, he retired and it's time for new leadership." That new regime will be led by Hastings College graduate Don Jackson. "He gets it, he gets the uniqueness at Hastings College." Jackson has an extensive background in business, known for serving as CEO of Chicago-based Eastern Seals. He most recently worked within the college helping raise millions for the Bobby Gottsch Difference Makers campaign. "If we don't have students there is no reason to raise money and so continuing to provide wonderful experience for students where they can grow even farther than they thought they could like i did is the key to our success here." The 16th president is ready to accept the challenge of making Hastings college a unique experience. "If they graduate we will prepare them for the next phase of their life whether its graduate school or work." |
