Hastings Community Theater debuts "Forever Plaid"

"Forever Plaid" is a very unique play that is coming to the Hastings Community Theater. News 5 welcomed a couple guests from that production on Monday morning. James Carson and Paul Hamelink spoke about the event.

Amy West: Paul is the musical director of the musical. Can you tell us a little bit about the background?

Paul Hamelink: Sure. Great show. One of the funnest I've ever done. It's about four guys who were a quartet from the 50s who got killed in a car crash, get a chance to come back from the dead and do the show they never got to do while they were alive. It's all fun music from the late 50s, early 60s that everybody will recognize.

Amy: It's music that wasn't written specifically for the play.

Paul: Right, they took popular music - Perry Como's "Catch a Falling Star" - lot of the music that people will know.

Amy: It sounds fun and, James, you play one of these band members that comes back from the dead. What's it been like for you?

James Carson: I've enjoyed it. I've done different shows with the community theater. I'm part of a quartet so there's a lot of music, there's tight harmonies, it's challenging musically, but it's also fun because it's a humorous show. It's poignant, I guess, at the end, but it's really about us being able to do this show.
