This year there is a huge need for donations to the Hastings Food Pantry. It's "Giving Tuesday" and Mike Englehardt from the Hastings Food Pantry spoke with News 5 about how you can get involved on this special day and donate.

Amy West: Mike, what do you need from people when it comes to Hastings Food Pantry?

Mike: Well, like a lot of organizations, we're extremely short of food. Any non-perishable items such as soup, canned fruit, canned vegetables, boxed goods, that sort of thing, we need.

Amy: And it's still pretty early in the holiday season. Is this typical this time of year or do you usually have more by this time?

Mike: It's very typical around this time of year to be short of food. We try to help those who are in need on a temporary basis. So we are really looking to get some donations.

Amy: And where can they go to make these donations? Who do they get in touch with?

Mike: They can go to the food pantry which is at 918 W. 4th Monday through Friday from 12:00 to 4:00 or they can call the pantry office at 463-2911.

Amy: And especially during the holidays this is when you get your big donations for the year with people coming in. How important is it for these people that you serve to have a supply of these canned foods - soup, spaghetti, etc.?

Mike: It's vital to them. People who are down on their luck, have lost a job, they're allowed three pantries a year and this is a great time to give. People are very grateful.
