Hastings city council permits future MMA events

It's played host to professional wrestling and indoor whiffle ball tournaments among other things. But, another activity - mixed martial arts - could be making a return to the Hastings City auditorium.

Allowing MMA fighting at the city auditorium was scheduled to be discussed during Monday night's city council meeting.

But, a decision was made before the meeting even began.

As long as there is no alcohol in the balcony seating section, and the group running the show is sanctioned as a "sporting event" by the state of Nebraska then a future event would be permitted.

No date has been set yet.

Nearly four years ago, city officials placed a ban on *unsanctioned* Mixed Martial Arts events at the Hastings City Auditorium after reports of fights outside of the ring and explicit behavior by a ring girl.
