Hastings doctor awaits Olympic trip
We've talked about such 2012 Olympic athletes as Jordan Larson, Jordan Burroughs and Tervel Dlagnev competing for the United States. We also know of some area spectators that will be in London for the games starting July 27th here on NBC. That includes one Hastings doctor that is becoming a fixture at the Olympic games around the world.
At his office in Hastings, Dr. Jerry Seiler is counting down the days before yet another Olympic trip.
It seems like only yesterday he was in Beijing for the 2008 games, had the time of his life and signed up for the trip to this year's games in London.
"Signed up right when we got back from Beijing, you have got to put your name in, put a deposit down," said Seiler.
Dr. Seiler will travel with many of the same people he went with four years ago to Beijing and eight years ago to Athens.
Track and Field News sponsors these tours of which this will be his 3rd Olympic journey. He told me that's nothing compared to some people.
"There's a lot of these people in this same tour that have been coming as far back as 1968, the Mexico City Olympics, a couple that have been on every trip," said Seiler.
One difference this time for Dr. Seiler is that not only his son Aaron who went with him to Beijing will be there, but daughter Bridgett and wife Mary will also make this an entire Seiler family vacation.
"Oh it'll be awesome. We're looking forward to it," Seiler said.
And since I'll not be in London for these games on NBC, I asked the doctor if he could be our special Olympic correspondent here on News 5 for these games of the 30th Olympiad.
"I'll do that, I'll send some pictures back. My son may have to help me with the technology that we'll have our iPads and everything over there so we'll send you some shots," said Seiler.
