Hastings seminar will help you plan for your future
Planning for the future. That is the focus of estate planning seminars that will be going on this Wednesday in Hastings. Event coordinator and development officer at Mary Lanning Healthcare Foundation, Mary Plock, spoke with News 5 Monday.
Amy: This is something Mary Lanning put on earlier this year in March, February, the springtime. Why is this something we're doing again?
Mary: It is always important to keep ahead of trends and the laws are changing and even our family situations are changing. So it's something that we always want to keep in mind. This is a great opportunity to hear a variety of topics that are central to the issue presented by very qualified professionals, most of them right here. And we hope people take advantage of it.
Amy: When should you start planning for these things? When's too young?
Mary: I don't know if there is too young. It's a Midwest tradition to think about your family and community. We do that and we want to continue that tradition. It is so Midwestern and this to help people as they continue to think about their future and what legacy do you want to leave.
Amy: And I like something you said earlier when we were talking during the break that countries go into recession, they come out, bills and laws come and go. So you need to be prepared yourself to be able to confront whatever comes.
Mary: Exactly. We still want to prepare, help support family and those community programs that are important to us. No matter what else is happening it's central to everybody. We want to think about what legacy we're leaving.
Amy: Definitely. And, like you said, there are some great speakers. There are six speakers. This is happening at the Cottonwood Room at the Hastings CCC campus and that is Wednesday, October 10th from 9:00 am to noon. Tell us a little bit about these six speakers.
Mary: The two speakers that are coming from Nebraska Community Foundation are Jeff Yost and Jim Gustafson and they will be bringing information especially from the new study of the transfer of wealth here in Nebraska. Very timely, very interesting information. The other speakers are local, including attorneys and wealth advisors. And these people are very knowledgeable professionals. They know all about the questions that are important to people in our community. So we hope you come and listen.
