Heartland Pet Connection holds spay/neuter fundraiser
Many people may not know that earlier this week was World Spay Day. Jean Stinnette of the Heartland Pet Connection spoke with News 5 on this topic.
Amy West: The organization is having a fundraiser for spaying and neutering animals this week, correct? Jean Stinnette: We are. If you visit our Facebook page and post a comment about World Spay Day and then share it then you are entitled to be involved in the drawing for two spay and neuters we are giving away. We have one done by the animal clinic and the other one is being done by Companion's Choice. And I need to remind people why it's so important with statistics of animals that aren't spayed or neutered. If a female dog is not spayed and all of her puppies are not spayed or neutered in six years she and her offspring will produce 67,000 puppies. It's even more astounding for cats. If a female cat is not spayed and all of her kittens are not spayed or neutered in seven years she and all of her offspring will produce 420,000 kittens. Amy: It's amazing. And all this can be prevented. Jean: Exactly. We would love to be out of business. That would be wonderful. Amy: But now you are in business and there are a lot of volunteer opportunities for people who want to get involved. Jean: Yes, I'm the volunteer coordinator and so I really am excited about volunteers. We have a wonderful volunteer staff. Summer's coming up. We have lovely fenced in yards where you can go out and exercise our puppies. We have swimming pools. Inside, we have toys and cat trees for our kitties. Amy: For more information they can go to your website or Facebook page. |
