Heineman heads to DC for governors meeting

Tools

Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman is headed to Washington DC this weekend. He'll be taking part in the annual National Governors Association winter meeting. Budget cuts and healthcare are sure to be discussed.

Governors across the country could be using the time to communicate with one another on how their states could be affected by the sequestration set to take place on March 1st.

The Aerospace Industries Association says the budget cuts could cost Nebraska more than 6,000 jobs and a loss of more than $660 million in gross income unless action is taken.

The healthcare exchange program is another topic sure to be talked about in DC.

Heineman at one point said the state would not take part in that piece of the Affordable Healthcare Reform Act.

Heineman will be attending the conference at a time when fellow GOP governors are beginning to buy into the Obamacare Medicaid expansion program.

So far seven Republicans have announced their change of mind over the plan.
