Heineman names new lieutenant governor

For weeks Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman has been working without his right hand man. This after Lieutenant Governor Rick Sheehy announced his shocking resignation. Wednesday, the Governor moved on from Sheehy and found his replacement.

And, tabbing Lavon Heidemann the new lieutenant governor and he's a man familiar with the legislature.

Over a week and half after former Lieutenant Governor Rick Sheehy abruptly resigned. Wednesday Governor Heineman announced his replacement.

Former State Senator Lavon Heidemann has been sworn in as the next Lieutenant Governor of the state of Nebraska.

Lt. Gov. Lavon Heidemann served as a state senator for District 1 from 2005 to 2013. He was also recently elected to the University of Nebraska Board of Regents in 2012.

Lt. Gov. Heidemann is stepping in after a dramatic resignation given by
Hastings native and Former Lt. Gov. Rick Sheehy, after the Omaha World Herald uncovered details of Sheehy talking to woman late at night using a state issued cell phone.

At a guessing game of names to fill the spot, Heidemann may not have been the first guess, but Governor Heineman says he's the right choice.

"Under normal circumstances I would not have asked him to leave that position. However, this is an extraordinary situation and I wanted the best Nebraskan possible standing by my side," said Heineman.

Lt. Gov. Heidemann said during the news conference that he is not planning on running for governor in the next election.
