High school grad foregoes party to help storm victims
Do you know a teenager who would give up a party in their honor to help someone else? After hearing about the tornado victims in Alabama a Harvard High school senior decided they needed more than she.
Traysea Gilmore graduated from Harvard High earlier this month, but after turning the tassel Traysea chose not to have a celebration. "Instead of having a graduation reception I decided to send that money to the relief funds in Alabama because they had a tornado outbreak so I wanted to help out," said Traysea. The area Traysea's family is from in Alabama was ravaged by F4 and F5 tornadoes. The news was heartbreaking for the family. "I have family and friends down there and my friend Haley lost her house and I felt pretty useless up here not doing anything," Traysea said. Traysea's mom Tammy said she was surprised to hear Traysea's request, but feels proud of her daughter's decision. "I was, like, blown away because it was so unselfish of her thinking, you know, kids don't do that these days they think me, me, me," said Tammy. A sacrifice to help the Gilmore's home away from home. "I just wanted to help out," said Traysea. The family will send the funds gathered to a local Salvation Army in Alabama. |
