Holiday shipping rush reaches record numbers

All those Cyber Monday gifts you bought a few weeks back are expected to be on your door steps this week. Because of the online shopping, Monday is expected to be the busiest shipping day of the year and for one company, the busiest day ever.

We're talking millions of packages - 19 million to be exact.

FedEx says because of online shopping, millions of shipments will be made Monday across the country. But it's not just FedEx who's feeling the holiday rush.

"This is sort of our Superbowl."

FedEx is moving millions of packages just three weeks before Christmas at a rate of 200 per second making it the busiest 24 hours in FedEx history.

"Peak just means, longer hours, more packages to deliver," said FedEx Vice President John Dunavant.

But those delivery drivers aren't the only ones feeling the holiday rush.
So are the shipping stores.

"This week is probably the busiest of the year."

The folks at A Total Package are staying busy helping hundreds of customers get their gifts to loved ones across the country. And it's not just this week neither.

"First part of next week, you always have those stringers that come in and want to get it there the day before Christmas, when can I get it there before Christmas," said Harold Scheierman, A Total Package.

In fact, November and December account for most of the business the entire year.

"Those two will probably make up the rest of the year, in other words, we do as much in those two months as we do the remainder of the year," Scheierman said.

From weighing the packages, making sure they're all taped up, to getting them out the door staying busy themselves all while keeping UPS, the post office and yes FedEx busy all well.

"We've got all of our team members, all of our resources headed toward these last three weeks of December," said FedEx Managing Director Paul Tronsor.

The folks at A Total Package recommend getting those packages shipped by December 17 to make sure they arrive at their destination by Christmas, but say the sooner you get them out the better.
