Serving up hope in a sweet way
One organization is serving up hope in Grand Island in a sweet way.
It's the first year for Hope Harbor's benefit, which was held at Riverside Golf Course Saturday. Over 300 people attended the event, which had a dinner, dancing, silent and live auctions. Plus there's a treat, four local chefs had a competition for the best dessert, using caramel as their key ingredient. Guests would taste and judge the tasty treats and vote on a winner. All of the proceeds go to the transitional and emergency shelter, which helps women, children and families, but the event also raises awareness. "It's really showing our community that there is a need out there because I think a lot of times, especially in rural areas, people don't realize that there are homeless on the corner and that there are people in their own hometown that don't have what they have," said Executive Director Melissa DeLaet.
