Check your internet speed to get biggest bang for your buck
Internet service providers continue to offer faster and faster service, but are they really doing the job? News 5's Ginger ten Bensel looks into how you can check to see if you are getting what you are paying for.
Internet service is something that a lot of people are interested in. The faster...the better. There are several sites you can go to like BroadBandReports.com. When you go to this site you will want to test your internet service several times though out the day. "Or you've noticed a degrade in quality where you used to get in megabits of download and it's gone down to five and you've seen that consistently after you've done your speed checks. It would be a good time to call your internet providers and question them why you're receiving lower internet speeds," said Brian Hoffman. Now you can check and see if you are receiving the megabytes per second your provider says you are supposed to. At News 5 our computer speeds are at 3 megabytes per second upload and download time. Most people believe that they are getting the speed they pay for. Brian Hoffman says that if you are having trouble you can contact your internet provider. "If you run into a problem with your internet services it's just like cable tv. And if you can't' get a signal on your tv they will come out and your service provider will take care of it," said Hoffman. Charter Cable said they are upgrading their Charter Internet express service for the second time in a year. It will go from eight megabits per second to up to 12 megabits per second. Right now there may be a number of reasons that your internet is running slow. "They have a quality of service inside that network and what I mean by quality of services is the ups and downs and the speed that you might recognize one day or even within the next twenty minutes. It all depends on how many people are getting on their network," Hoffman said. That is why it is a good idea to check your internet speed at several different times of the day. That way you will know if you are getting the internet speed you are paying for. If you are having trouble you should call your internet provider.
