Interviews continue for Hasting Police chief position

Interviews continue Tuesday for the position of Hastings Police chief. The four finalists are current Hastings Police Captains Gene Boner and Adam Story; as well as Grand Island Police Captain Peter Kortum and Litchfield, Illinois Police Chief BJ Wilkinson.

Hastings Mayor Vern Powers says the process of hiring a new chief is a tough one.

"We need to be careful with the person we hire, because it can flavor, we want our police force to help up in our town, we don't want them to be an oppressive, kind of like Gestapo kind of force," said Powers.

Monday, Wilkinson and Story underwent formal interviews and met with Hastings leaders and residents.

Tuesday, Kortum and Boner will have their interviews.

A meet and greet for Kortum started a short while ago at 11:00 Tuesday morning at Hastings City Hall. That will be followed by a reception Tuesday afternoon for Captain Boner at 4:00 pm.
