Intoxicated Kearney man hijacks construction equipment

A late night ride in a piece of construction equipment landed a Kearney man in jail. And, he's facing charges of felony criminal mischief.

Around 3:00 in the morning on Sunday, Kearney Police responded to a call that a man intoxicated was operating construction machinery.

Witnesses say, 25 year old Dustin Odea was at the construction zone on Second Avenue putting marks into the pavement on the 2700 block of Second Avenue.

When Police arrived, Odea was asleep in the machine while the engine was still warm.

The big question is how long and how much will it take to fix the damage.

"It could delay it. I'm not sure how long it would delay it. Damages that significant, what it will take to fix that will be up to the construction company," said Brad Newell, Kearney Police.

Odea posted his one thousand dollar bond and was released.
He is expected to appear in court late this month.
