Amidst sequester cuts, Nebraska Senator Mike Johanns says he's mystified about the Department of Agriculture's request for flexible spending.

Johanns says the department has asked for more than $100 million in flexible spending - $10 million of which would go to rounding up wild horses.

And while the request in itself is not odd or unusual, Johanns says he was surprised by one item left of the request.

"Unfortunately, though, Sec. Vilsek failed to request authority for flexibility to avoid furloughs for meat inspectors. Earlier this week I sent Sec. Vilsek a letter asking why the department neglected to make this a priority especially over corralling wild horses. It just mystifies me," said Johanns.

Johanns says he has not yet heard back from Vilsek and awaits his response.
