Johanns nominates Blue Hill men for heroism

Tools

It's a tragedy that will always haunt the Blue hill community: four people killed in a bus crash. But, Nebraska Senator Mike Johanns doesn't want the heroics of two men to be forgotten.

He nominated the pair for a national award.

Johanns submitted the names of Ron Meyr and Phil Petr as finalists for the National Citizen Service Before Self Honors.

The duo entered a burning school bus to pull five children to safety in September of 2012.

Two students were killed in the crash when the bus collided with a semi. Both drivers also died.

The final four Citizen Hero honorees will receive medals for their service on March 25th.

They'll be announced March 11th.
