Juniata will undergo blight study
The village of Juniata may soon be named a blighted and substandard property. It's in an effort to help restore the small town.
The Adams County Planning and Zoning Commission approved an application to move forward with a blight study. Becoming a blighted community would allow property tax increases to finance projects. It means extra funding to help fix up the community which Marvin Clements, a chairman of the Juniata Village Board, says is the goal. But the community has mixed feelings about the new title. "I do not feel well about that. I mean after all there are some very nice houses in this area. All I can say is if there's blighted parts they should get on whoever owns them and have them fix them up. I mean I have to fix my own property," said Joe Stine. Not everyone would comment on camera but we did hear arguments from both sides. Juniata will hold a board meeting Thursday night at 7:00 pm to discuss the issue. |
