New information released in Kearney County deputy suit
New information has been obtained in the Kearney County Sheriff deputy wrongful termination suit. Former deputy Shane Monthey (Monthee) claims he was fired from the department for a personal journal that allegedly detailed corruption in the department.
He is currently suing his former employer, Kearney County Sheriff Scott White. Monthey filed a complaint with the Nebraska Equal Opportunity Commission in 2012. The NEOC ruled there was no reasonable cause for wrongful termination, stating: "The evidence shows that the Respondent (Sheriff White) did receive a copy of the Compainant's (Shane Monthey) journal prior to his discharge. Even if the journal contained information about illegal activies on the part of the Respondent, the evidence show the Respondent had a legitimate reason to terminate the Complainant's employment." That evidence? Monthey conducted a traffic stop on his wife after being told not to. He's also accused of not properly reporting the stop. |
