9th in the nation. That's how Nebraska stacks up against the rest of the country when it comes to overall well-being of children.

The annual Kids Count Report by Voices for Children in Nebraska was released Wednesday.

It shows Nebraska's ranking holding steady: 9th for the past few years.

But, what that number doesn't say is that the well-being of our kids has actually gone down.

Voices for Children says, quote, "we're simply less worse off than other states."

One of the most startling statistics?

Nebraska removes kids from their homes at almost twice the national average.

Victims of child maltreatment have increased by over 70% during the past decade, too.

The report attributes this to greater financial stress on parents.
