Legislature Today (1/16/13): Human trafficking, county offices

Tools

Human trafficking has been in the headlines across the country lately.
Wednesday, that topic was one of the issues discussed in a bill introduced at the legislature.

LB 255 was introduced by Senator Amanda McGill. This is a follow up to legislation passed last year which created the Human Trafficking Task Force.

McGill's bill includes adding human trafficking of a minor to the definition of child abuse.

It also prohibits children under the age of 18 from being prosecuted for prostitution.

Also Wednesday Cedar Rapids Senator Kate Sullivan introduced LB 241 - a bill that would authorize voters to change election of county offices from partisan to non-partisan.
