One Grand Island facility where you can break a sweat

One Grand Island facility has been transformed into a gym for local residents.

Around five weeks ago the Community Fieldhouse at Fonner Park was one of the many venues for the Nebraska State Fair.

But Sunday it became a recreation facility for the city of Grand Island.

Open to the public until July, the building will host various leagues such as soccer, volleyball and flag football.

It's a yearly change that has received a lot of support from the community.

"This year's been much busier than last year," said Recreation Coordinator, Jeremey Bachmann. "I think we did a much better job of marketing it, more people know about it. Last year when we opened I feel like the whole town didn't know about it, but now that we've been open for a year it's been much busier."

Bachmann also says that indoor archery and pickle-ball leagues will be offered and organized in the coming months.
