Local fans enjoy the big game
For some the Superbowl isn't the same without food, family and a lively place to hangout.
As the Superbowl kicked off this evening, News 5's Dara Newson joined several bar & grills as die-hard fans crowded the scenes. Superbowl parties are famous for being held at home, but this year that wasn't the case. "You can actually be loud here that's why we choose to come here," said Raven's fan, Dylan Payton. "The environment, everybody here, it's fun." "I've got $10,000 on the 49ers, so you know I want them to win," said 49er's fan, Jerry Akins. You could call the night something like a holiday dinner spent with family and friends. At Rivals in Hastings as fans prepared to watch the big game, staff and management were ready to serve beyond regular business. "We have 47 cent wings," said Rivals Manager Brian Bonnell. "We have a full order of nachos, an order of potato skins for $4.70." The bar and grills try to make it fun for Superbowl comers with giveaways and games. But, then there's always the one thing viewers look forward to. "Everybody getting together and having fun especially, there's even been some betting on some of the commercials with some of the customers in here about whose going to have the better commercials, whether it'll be Bud light or Budweiser," Bonnell said. Over at HK Sports Bar and Grill this year's Superbowl came with a new menu. "When it comes to food you think of during the Superbowl it's kind of what we do with big two handed gourmet burgers and real New York style buffalo wings," said General Manager Jeremy Howard. At the restaurant anxious fans went early just to grab front row seats at the HD TVs. "Probably the Ravens because I guess Ed Reed and Ray Louis hopefully they get one before they have to retire," said Raven's fan Ross Brady. "I think the 49ers are still pretty young so they can probably do it again maybe" "First time you'll ever here it, I'm rooting for the Ravens I'm a die-hard Steelers fan, but I should be going for the 49ers," said Raven's fan Justin Clark. Whether it's the 49ers or the Ravens, nothing beats celebrating the win at any bar and grill with family and friends. |
