A retired Hastings teacher is nationally recognized for his work with local youth. Ron Veburg taught English, public speaking, and theater for 41 years. And he has worked with nearly 10,000 students during that time.
Veburg has been chosen as the "Our Youth Dedication Award winner, by the National Retired Teachers association.
He retired in 1992, and replaced his teaching with volunteering and dedicating hundreds of hours of his time to area children's groups.
"I was so used to a schedule of, you know, being in the classroom, being in the auditorium helping on the stage directing. You kind of just get into a routine that you got to keep going and it makes you feel so good when you can see that you might be helping some others," said Veburg.
Veburg will be presented with the award on September 17th at the downtown Holiday Inn in Lincoln.
