Man arrested 22 years after Ord murder
On May 31, 1989, Catherine Beard went missing after leaving a tavern in Ord. In April of 1992, her skeletal remains were found in a Valley County pasture where they had been buried in a shallow grave.
For 22 years, the case had been cold. That was until Tuesday night, when Missouri authorities, working with the Valley County Sheriff's office arrested former Ord resident John Oldsen. Oldson is facing first degree murder charges and is being held on a one million dollar bond. He will remain in the Clay County Missouri Detention Center pending extradition. For a former Grand Island Independent reporter who covered the Beard murder story; the timing of the arrest was a surprise, but the individual was not. Michael Hooper now lives in Topeka, Kansas. He interviewed John Oldsen as part of his coverage of the story and had suspicions that Oldsen was responsible for the death of Catherine Beard. The Valley County Sheriff is urging anyone that has any information on this case to contact the Valley County Sheriff's office or the Nebraska State Patrol. |
