The American Red Cross is synonymous with helping people, and has been doing so for more than 130 years.

And for the past 70 years, the Month of March has been proclaimed Red Cross Month.

In 2012, the Central Plains Chapter helped 607 families live through fires, floods, and severe storms.

They also trained nearly 25,000 responders in lifesaving skills.

From blood donations to financial supporters, their support goes well beyond just basic needs.

"It helps provide communication support for emergency messages between the military and their family," said Donna Titman, Executive Director, Central Plains Chapter. "There's so much the Red Cross does every day and quietly does it without publicity."

The Red Cross responds to nearly 70,000 disasters a year.

They also distribute about 40% of the nation's blood supply and trains more than 7 million people in first aid and other life-saving skills every year.
