More Nebraskans are choosing higher education
More and more people in the state of Nebraska are going to college than ever before.
The Grand Island Public Library held a college and career open house Saturday. A representative from the non-profit organization, Education Quest spoke about preparing for college and student aid. Library staff and Education Quest representatives say that Governor Dave Heineman's emphasis on education and job creation is catching on across the state. "One thing that we've really noticed is that with the economy the way it's been lately is that college's numbers are going up quite a bit, especially in Nebraska," said Andrew Hunzeker. "So what that means is not only are people going back to school, adult learners are changing their mind and doing a new career path, but that it's becoming more common even for just high school students to be more interested and that's the acceptable next step after high school." This is the first year the Library has put on a College and Career Open House. They hope to build on the program in the future. |
