Murder suspect Oldson held in Hall County

Just two days after 45 year old John Oldson was arrested in Missouri for the 1989, murder of 31 year old Catherine Beard. Tonight he's back in Nebraska.

Oldson waived his extradition Wednesday, and was transferred just a few hours ago to the Hall County Jail.

As Oldson returns to Nebraska Thursday night to face those murder charges, Residents in the town of Ord are feeling a little closure

New 5 went to Ord today.

A small town that was shaken by the murder in the late 80s of one of its next-door neighbors.

31 year old Cathy Beard was last seen at Someplace Else Tavern.
She was a hometown girl, born and raised, worked there as a waitress.

Beard's remains were found Southeast of Ord. It shook the small town, residents were scared, concerned and extra cautious.

So, two decades later.

This arrest, pending justice, brings a sense of closure.

"Well, when it's all said and done, it should bring some peace of mind."

"There's a lot of talk out there and I think a lot of people are very excited and happy that we can finally put it to rest and Cathy can rest in peace," said Denise O'Neel, Valley City. Admin. Asst.

Oldson's next court appearance will be February 6th.
