Mystery trunk given to relatives of Capt. Farley

A World War II mystery trunk has a new home. Becky Gerdes purchased the trunk at a farm auction several years ago and wanted to seek out the owner.

She brought the old green trunk to her son's store, Odessa Furniture, where they received several calls.

The trunk was empty except for two tattered cards, but on top worn paint reads Capt. L. E. Farley.

Now, Don Daily a distant relative of Farley is the new owner.

He says Lloyd Farley shipped the trunk from Seattle to his father Arthur Farley in Kearney back in 1946. Lloyd's father is Don Daily's great uncle.

Daily and other relatives have been tracing the footsteps of Lloyd Farley.

"He's a very intelligent guy. He did a lot of things concerned with universities. He was in the service in Okinawa. He was married for a short period of time, but never had any children. Evidently, he was just a very interesting, clean-cut guy."

Don Daily and his wife, Jody are considering taking the trunk to a family reunion in Norfolk in a few weeks. They might also give the trunk to other relatives of Farley.
