National group urges seniors to take political action
A national seniors group is calling all seniors to contact their representatives and senators and urge them not to make cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.
The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, is a non-profit, nonpartisan organization. While some seniors didn't participate in the Congressional call-in they have a message for Congress. Eighty-five year old Betty Schirmer suffered a stroke a year ago, she's now living at the Kensington recovering. She's able to live there off her social security check but if cuts are made, that could change. "Please stop playing politics and get down to business, when you've paid into it for the last forty years of your working life you ought to at least have somebody managing the money who is caring a little bit about you," said Schirmer. Congressman Smith's office has received a steady flow of calls. Smith has responded to those directly. |
