The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say Nebraska residents need to be aware of a human Salmonella infection. It started with interaction with chicks and ducks from a Missouri hatchery.

The South Heartland District Health Department Executive Director warns that contact with live poultry such as chicks, chickens, duckling, ducks, geese, and turkeys can be a source for a human Salmonella infection.

As of June 25th, a total of 66 people have been infected with the outbreak stain of Salmonella.

Five of those are from Nebraska.

The outbreak is still under investigation.
