Nebraska landowner speaks out against XL Pipeline
Meanwhile, Heineman has less than 30 days to make a decision on the future of the Keystone XL pipeline in the state.
Nebraska's Department of Environmental Quality submitted its final evaluation of the Keystone Nebraska reroute to the governor on Thursday, saying the reroute would minimize possible negative impacts. However, controversy over the pipeline continues. The route goes through the land of one Nebraska family who says they feel they're being forced to do something they don't support. "We feel like for one, there's a huge risk if it ever did leak and they do leak. There has been leaks of tar sand pipelines. If it got into the aquifer, I don't know that they'd ever get it out," said landowner Jenni Harrington. The U.S. State Department is conducting a separate review of the pipeline. Those results are expected to be released in coming months. |
