Nebraska looks to make up for Medicaid funding cuts

The Nebraska Department of Health and Human services is asking for $44 million more in from lawmakers to make up for lost federal Medicaid funding.

The reason for the loss? It could be Nebraska's good economic and financial standing.

Omaha Sen. Jeremy Nordquist told the Associated Press the cuts are based on a formula that helps states when they're struggling, and pulls back when their economies are strong.

It means when lawmakers reconvene in January, and begin setting the next 2 year budget, they'll have to try and find a way to make up the difference using state money.
