Nebraska continues to strengthen its trade relationship with China. Monday marked a milestone.

Nebraska's first trade office in China officially opened for business. The office is a way for the state to expand its international trade efforts.

Jack Schreiner, president of the Bruckman Rubber Company, traveled to China recently with the governor and says trade offices like this are important for expanding businesses and getting their products overseas.

"Many of these countries are not only large importers to products we use every day in the United States, but they're also becoming very large consumers so it's important if Nebraska is going to be involved in this, and we have to be involved in this, it's important we have a face over there," said Schreiner.

Although agriculture remains the main exporter of the state, manufacturing also brings added value to the relationship.

This is the second overseas trade office Governor Dave Heineman has opened. A similar office was opened in Tokyo in 2006.
