Nebraska voters reject pay increase for legislators
Nebraska lawmakers didn't get the outcome they had in mind last night. Nebraska voters rejected measures to give a pay raise to state lawmakers and to extend legislative term limits
But voters did approve a measure guaranteeing in the state Constitution the right to hunt and fish and another changing the state's impeachment law. The term-limits proposal would have allowed lawmakers to serve three consecutive, four-year terms. State Senator Chris Langemeier says he thinks voters made the right decision by not extending term limits. "I think the citizens of Nebraska want to make sure we have a citizen legislature and I think this is one step to ensuring that's a citizen legislature," Langemeier said. Both of those amendments were defeated by 30 percentage points. |
